Search guidelines

The Lotus Newsletter Literature Database holds more than 450 references. The records have the information relating to each reference as a field -- reference type, author(s) surname, year of publication, title and periodical.  Keywords,  abstracts and links to the authors registered at the Lotus Newsletter Researchers Database could be available.

Simple to search

The search explores only the fields authors, year of publication, keywords and abstract. Type one or more search terms (the words or phrase that best describe the information you want to find) into the search box and hit the 'Enter' key or click on the Flower "Go" button. For example:

Capitalization in the Search

Case is NOT ignored: upper and lower case letters are treated different. For example, searches for Lotus corniculatus, lotus corniculatus and Lotus Corniculatus may return different references.

Operators in the Search

The search algorithm searches for character strings, and does not accommodate wildcards or common operators like AND and OR. Do not use punctuation like dots or semicolon.

You can enter any consecutive string of words separated by spaces (for example Lotus corniculatus). The space operator is like the OR operator. The results table will include all records with at least one of the words; therefore, it will be the largest output.

You can reduce the search results in three ways:

  • The first alternative is to introduce between two words the minus operator (for example: Lotus - corniculatus). The minus operator works like NOT, thus the output will be all records with the first word, but without the following word.

  • The second alternatives is to add between words the plus operator. This operator is equivalent to AND. Therefore,  the search for Lotus + corniculatus will find all records that has both words.

  • The third alternative is to enter any consecutive string of letters, spaces, and punctuation that might appear in a field between the quote operator "". Only an exact match of that string will result in a hit if you include the text between quotations (for example: "Lotus corniculatus").

  • To restrict a search further, just include more terms.

The Results

In response, the results page produces a table: a list of references related to your search terms. There is no weighting of returns.
